Light Revisions for the Skoda Karoq and Kodiaq in 2020

Skoda has announced that their SUV pair, the Skoda Kodiaq, and Karoq will receive a light revision for the 2020 models. This revision will include some design tweaks, new equipment, and certain technology upgrades for MY20. The details of this update contained in this article are for the announced European revision, and we expect to have more details on the Australian changes soon.

The European Reveal

Skoda has revealed their plans for a light revision for their 2020 Skoda Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs. The announcement comes as production has commenced for these upgraded models that we may see before the end of this year. Even though this is a European release of the details, it’s worth our time because many or all of these revisions could make it to Australia.

A Brief Overview

The first thing that many Skoda drivers will notice is the new “Skoda” lettering emblazoned across the tailgate. This is a sure sign that you have a revised variant and it has recently been adopted on the Scala, Superb and Kamiq models. Skoda has stated that the new lettering convention will be seen on every new Skoda car as we move forward. Both the Kodiaq and Karoq will get some new technology, including the latest version of “Side Assist”. This blind spot monitoring system can now sense approaching vehicles at a range of 70 metres, compared to the current range of 20 metres.

More Technology

The warning lights are now integrated into edges of the mirror caps, and this makes them far easier to see. Skoda has stated that their new “Side Assist” system (briefly mentioned above) can operate at speeds above 15km/h for acceleration and as low as 10km/h for braking purposes. The rear cross traffic alert will still be a key part of the side assist technology. A major upgrade for 2020 is the introducton of Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for the front wheel Kodiaq and Karoq variants. The DCC is a set of adaptive dampers which can be adjusted by choosing one of three driving modes; they are normal, comfort, and sport. The DCC significantly changes how the vehicle drives, and it was previously available on the all wheel drive models. The “KESSY” keyless entry and engine starting system has been upgraded. A new motion sensor in the key fob will switch off after 15 minutes with no movement, and this will reduce the risk of casual theft.

Further Revisions

The MY20 Karoq will now have a 2.0L four cylinder turbo diesel engine that generates 140kW of power. This engine will feature a new catalytic converter that uses AdBlue injection and a particulate filter. This turbo diesel Karoq will have a seven speed DSG automatic transmission and all wheel drive on the flagship model. The Kodiaq Sportline will have an option for a new 20” “Ignite” alloy wheel design which is 255mm wide. These rims are also an available option for the L&K and RS variants in Europe.
