7 Surprising Skoda Kodiaq Facts

Skoda Kodiaq Boot Space

The Skoda’s car model Kodiaq is an excellent seven seater SUV that is understandably popular with Australian drivers. There was a great deal written about this car when it was released, and a host of positive reviews were written. However, during the frenetic pages written during a car release details can easily be overlooked. Let’s take a look at seven surprising Kodiaq fact that you may not have heard before.

The Amazing Space

The Skoda car model’s interior for the Kodiaq is larger than you may think because the Kodiaq is a surprisingly large car. At 4,697mm in length, the Kodiaq is closer in size to the Volkswagen Touareg rather than the Tiguan. The TSI petrol engine weighs in at 1,738kg, and the diesel unit weighs 1,795kg.

The MQB Platform

The Skoda’s model called  the Kodiaq is built on the MQB platform developed by the Volkswagen Group. In fact, the Kodiaq is closely related to the Skoda Octavia and Superb, and the VW Tiguan. However, at the moment the Kodiaq is the only seven seater vehicle that uses the MQB platform.

Transmission Choices

Globally, the Skoda Kodiaq has a manual gearbox option and front wheel drive. However, all Australian Kodiaqs are fitted with all wheel drive as standard. This is paired with seven speed DSG dual clutch automatic gearbox.

No Diesel Option?

The new Skoda called “Kodiaq” is powered by a single choice of engine. This powerplant is a 2.0 TSI petrol unit that generates 132kW of power. However, Skoda has promised to release their 2.0 TDI turbo diesel within a year of the initial petrol powered Kodiaq release.

Cutting Edge Style

The Kodiaq styling is a real head turner, and some reviewers have even described it as edgy. The styling is actually derived from the Skoda Superb and Octavia. These stablemates in turn where inspired by the theme of artisanal cut glass which is a famous Czech Republic export.

The Tow Assist System

One of the optional extras on the Kodiaq is the tow assist system which can really help when driving at low speeds with a trailer. Reversing is made easier because the driver can select the angle they need using the electric mirror switch. Then the car steering compensates automatically to maintain the correct trajectory.

A Kodiaq Coupe?

Apparently, Skoda is working on a Kodiaq coupe variant for the Chinese market. This car will have a lower roofline and will look like a version of the  BMW X6. Although there are no current plans to sell this vehicle elsewhere, Skoda has stated that this may change in the future.
