When they read a recent Skoda Octavia review, many people may learn about a new range of upcoming high tech digital instruments. In fact, these instruments will be available on the Skoda Octavia, Karoq, Kodiaq and Superb. This will bring the line up into line with the other VW family members, Volkswagen and Audi. Essentially, this is a fully digital instrument cluster, but what is it, which cars will have it and when can we expect to see it here in Australia?
The Original Release
The Active Info Display had a bit of a false start for its release here in Australia. It was initially scheduled to be released on the brand new Karoq crossover, which goes on sale in early July. This is a digital instrumentation cluster in a 12.3” form factor, but it was missed out for this release. Instead, Skoda Australia has revealed that the aforementioned vehicles will receive the Active Info Display later this year in Q4.
The Growing Demand for Digital Instruments
There has been an increase worldwide for fancier digital instruments, and the Volkswagen Group are keen to get this technology into production. The Q4 release of the cars fitted with this technology will be part of a 2019 model update across the range. This should give the Octavia, Karoq, KodiaQ and Superb additional appeal and boost sales worldwide.
Fitted as Standard Equipment?
When this technology was first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, it was unclear how widespread it would become. In fact, even now we are not entirely sure whether the Active Info Display would be fitted as standard or offered as an optional cost upgrade. Industry insiders best guess is that this technology will be offered for an additional cost on most variants across the range. However, it’s highly likely that more premium models would probably offer the display as a standard upgrade.
Will Other Models Follow?
At the moment both the Fabia and the Rapid will miss out on the Active Info Display. However, the next generation versions of these two models should have this digital instrumentation included. We currently have no idea when the new Fabia and Rapid will be available at this time.
