Is it Illegal to Drive Your Skoda Superb Under the Stated Speed Limit?

Skoda Superb Wagon

The Skoda Superb is an excellent family car to use in the city and for cruising out on the highway. It’s packed with technology and safety features to make your journey safer. In many accidents, speed is a determining factor on how severe the collision will be. However, some drivers are not aware that driving too slowly is also a dangerous way to drive. In this article, we will look at driving under the speed limit and explore if you can ever drive too slowly on our roads.

Is Driving Slowly Illegal?

There is no simple yes or no answer to this question, and it’s more a question of how slow the driver is actually driving. If you drive an excessive amount under the stated speed limit, it’s likely that you are committing a driving offence. Sometimes, we all need to slow down a little if we’re in an unfamiliar area and we’re trying to find a road junction or an elusive parking space. This may annoy drivers behind us, but a slight drop in speed is not really an unsafe way to drive. So, driving a little more carefully and dropping your speed slightly is not an issue.

How Slow Can You Go?

The Royal Automobile Association (RAA) have stated that if you drive at excessively slow speed, you could fall foul of Australian Road Rule 125. This rule state that a driver should not unreasonably obstruct the path of any other vehicle on the road. This rule doesn’t directly apply to the issue of speed, but if you’re driving at slower speeds that are effectively slowing or obstructing traffic, you could find yourself in hot water. This is an Australia wide law that is equally applicable in every State and Territory. However, there is some variability in how it’s applied depending on where you’re driving at the time. The RAA has advised that driving at a speed of 20 km/h through an 89 km/h zone would be considered to be an abnormally low driving speed. This statement was seconded by the New South Wales website for Roads and Maritime Services, so it’s backed from an official body.

What are the Implications?

The Skoda Superb sale price includes plenty of instrumentation and feedback related to speed. The Western Australia Police Force have stated that you cannot drive any slower than 20 km/h under the speed limit on our freeways. If you do, you’re putting yourself at the risk of being pulled over for violating the Australian Road Rule 125. It’s also important to understand that if you cause a road traffic accident by driving too slowly, it could violate your insurance cover. Any breach of the law while driving can cause your insurer to void your insurance coverage.

If they are searching for a new Skoda Superb, Perth based drivers should get in touch with Skoda Perth to schedule a no obligation test drive.
