The 2020 Skoda Rapid Spotted
The next generation 2019 Skoda Rapid has been spotted out in public and photographed for the first time. The latest model was observed during testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany, a common location for European cars to be put through their paces. In recent years, we have come to expect that prototype cars are fitted with camouflage livery to make photography more difficult. Despite this, there are some interesting details that can be made out clearly ahead of the official unveiling next year. Let’s take a closer look at what these images reveal about the next generation Rapid.
It appears from the images that the next generation Skoda Rapid will be sticking to the practical five door configuration seen on the current Rapid models. As part of the Volkswagen Group, it’s not too unusual that Skoda would stay with their functional and clean design ethos. As such, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see the Czech car manufacturer sticking with their existing Rapid bonnet shape and signature grilled design. Externally, there is not too much to tell, any smaller details have been lost to the car camouflage, but we have some interesting rumours about the car to share.
Skoda Rapid Sizing
According to car industry insiders, the new Rapid will be larger than the current model. There are good reasons to believe that the Rapid will be similar in size to the current VW Golf. However, unlike the Golf, the next generation Rapid will be underpinned by the MQB-A0 platform, which is already used on other VW Group cars, such as the Seat Ibiza and the VW Polo. It’s interesting to note that the Skoda Octavia and VW Golf and the majority of the other transverse engined car in the VW Group, including the Skoda Kodiaq and the VW Atlas, use the MQB component set which is more expensive.
Rapid Engine Rumours
There are some fairly credible rumours that the Skoda Rapid will have an initial engine range in Europe consisting of three variants, they are:
A 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder petrol unit.
A 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder petrol unit.
A 1.6 litre turbo-diesel unit.
There have also been some sketches released from Skoda of the latest Vision RS Concept interior. This concept is set for a release at the forthcoming Paris Motor Show. This concept could give us some insight into the interior design for either the next generation Rapid or Fabia models.
