The Skoda Rapid has had a great year here in Australia, so news of a model update has enthusiasts clamouring for more information. The range has been simplified for 2018, so what can you expect ?
A Solid Engine Option
The Skoda Rapid 2018 features just one variant, but this does mean that there is a solid engine option. The turbo petrol 1.2 six speed version is gone, but there is now a 92TSI variant with DSG automatic transmission. The Rapid, which is only available in the “Spaceback” body type is exclusively available with a larger turbo petrol 1.4 litre engine paired with a seven speed DSG driveline transmission. This engine offers an impressive 200 Nm torque, so it is sure to provide plenty of pulling power.
Great Aesthetics
Skoda has described the new Rapid move as being designed to offer greater simplicity for drivers, reducing complexity and providing an excellent driver experience. The model has great aesthetics with an extended glass tailgate providing a sleek silhouette. The clean lines are complemented by the privacy glass, LED daytime running lights, black side mirrors, and Black 17 inch Savio wheels.
Plenty of Gear
While the Rapid may have been simplified, it still offers plenty of gear and gadgets. Like its siblings in the Skoda range, the Rapid has the latest in tech innovations. The 6.5 inch touchscreen is at the heart of the cabin layout, providing exceptional ease of use for the infotainment system and a monitor for the reverse camera. The infotainment system also provides a SmartLink with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The drive experience is enhanced by the Front Assist system featuring City Emergency Brake and Rear Parking sensors to make it easier to negotiate those tight car parks and awkward spaces.
Simply Clever
Finally, as with the other models in the Skoda range, the Rapid features the Simply Clever innovations. This design technology provides some clever touches including air conditioned, illuminated glovebox, rear cup holders, hidden umbrella, neat waste bin and a myriad of storage pockets, bins, and compartments. This allows you to have a place to keep all of your gadgets neat and tidy.
